Worker Dies at Rio Tinto’s Simandou Project Site in Guinea

Rio Tinto has confirmed that a worker employed by a contracting company has passed away following an incident at the SimFer port site, part of the Simandou mining project in Morebaya, Guinea. The incident took place on Saturday, and work at the site has been temporarily halted.

Rio Tinto CEO Jakob Stausholm expressed the company’s condolences, extending sympathy to the worker’s family, friends, colleagues, and local community. “Our priority is to support those affected during this difficult time,” Stausholm stated.

The company is working closely with its partners and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Rio Tinto has reminded its employees that counseling and support services are available through the company’s Employee Assistance Program.
