TikTok Video Sparks Debate Over Wind Turbines in Queensland

A TikTok video is stirring up significant debate about the installation of wind turbines in Queensland’s Great Dividing Range. Filmed at the port of Brisbane, the video by user @dunderviking highlights concerns about the environmental and economic implications of this large-scale project.

The video begins by highlighting the massive scale of the wind turbines destined for the Great Dividing Range. These towering structures, about 100 meters long, are seen as a potential threat to the natural environment. The user argues that installing these turbines will lead to the destruction of local flora and fauna, stressing that once it’s gone, “it’s gone forever.”

Economic Viability and Manufacturing Issues

A major point raised is that these turbines aren’t made in Australia. This resonates with many viewers who feel that relying on foreign manufacturing misses an opportunity for local job creation and economic benefits. The video expresses frustration about the high costs that make domestic production unfeasible, pointing out the irony of importing these massive structures.

Additionally, the user mentions a concerning statistic: one in every 300 turbines is prone to catching fire, which is a significant issue when they’re 300 meters in the air. The implication is clear—if one of these catches fire, it’s not going to be easy to put out.

Long Term Effects

The video has sparked a wave of comments, adding depth to the debate. One commenter worries about the long-term impact, suggesting that the concrete footings left behind will prevent any future tree growth. Another criticises the financial aspect, claiming that windmills don’t pay for themselves and are hard to dispose of, often ending up buried.

Others highlight the environmental impact of the materials used in the turbines. The blades, full of non-recyclable materials and harmful chemicals, are seen as a significant issue. One user noted that while the project claims to protect the environment, it might end up doing the opposite.

Balancing Perspectives

While wind energy is often promoted as a crucial solution to climate change, it is clear that its implementation raises important questions and concerns. In summary, the video has brought attention to the opposition against wind energy projects in Queensland. It serves as a reminder that informed and balanced discussions are essential when it comes to renewable energy.

The landscapes of Australia are Unrenewable. Once they are gone they are gone forever… Wind and Solar factories will forever change our landscape and destroy so many communities and farmlands as they already have. #iamlibertarian #qld #renewables #renewableenergy #green #windpower #solar #farm #outback #country #australia #elections

  1. The issue is the massive environmental impact these wind factories are having on our last great wilderness, the Queensland Great Dividing Range. Destruction of high biodiversity crown jewels habitat full of endangered species. What was to be the climate change refugia. Making a mockery of all the efforts to reduce sediment runoff into the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area.
For 40% of name plate capacity at best and only a 20 year life before tearing down, more bush clearing for another 1200 tonne concrete and steel base pad. Haulage roads eroding forever. More clearing for new transmission corridors to link it all up. And the state govt overriding its own Vegetation Management Act for this. And we are told this is good for the world and will save the planet. While hypocritically we still mine coal enjoying the royalties to prop up the state budget. It’s a new gold rush for rent seekers on the Great Divide. One of the worst episodes of environmental destruction in the modern era. State sanctioned. Shame. And almost all political parties and conservation groups are asleep at the wheel and either complicit or ideologically mute.

  2. Another hair brain idea from Labor … if there has ever been a government with a biggest bunch of dummies this one takes the cake!
Wake up and see renewables are not the answer and wind turbines are definitely the worst.

  3. It should be declared illegal to clear for roads and wind turbines as they’re destroying the wild landscapes…

  4. Just use the abundance of gas and coal the Queensland has, cheap energy. Stop sending it all overseas

  5. They are nothing but destruction of the environment. Failed solutions for a made up problem to fill the pockets of the rich all why conning the people.

  6. We should just keep mining fossil fuels and pulling more carbon out of the ground endlessly, I’ve heard burning coal and oil is actually good for keeping climate change in check.
