About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Manager to provide strategic leadership for a significant civil project.
This is a senior role, focusing on implementing our Workplace Health & Safety Plan, fostering a zero-harm culture, and contributing to the strategic direction of safety across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Provide Health & Safety leadership by implementing the companys H&S policies, ensuring alignment with the business plan, and achieving set objectives and targets;
- Promote a Zero-Harm Culture: Actively promote safe behaviour and foster a zero-harm culture throughout the business;
- H&S Plan Implementation: Take ownership of the Workplace Health & Safety Plan, ensuring effective execution and communication of safety strategies, objectives, and targets across the project;
- Risk Management: Identify, develop, and implement strategies to eliminate or reduce harm, contributing to hazard identification, risk assessments, and management of the critical risk register;
- Incident Management: Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and provide recommendations for corrective and preventive actions;
- Performance Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring and reporting of H&S systems and processes to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement. Analyse performance data to identify trends and drive safety improvements;
- Compliance & Legal: Ensure all safety systems and processes are compliant with current legislative requirements. Maintain the companys OHS legal and risk registers;
- Consultation & Communication: Lead effective communication and consultation on all H&S matters, including chairing safety meetings, promoting safety policies, and consulting with stakeholders at all levels.
- Professional Development: Mentor and develop the H&S team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement in safety practices;
- Accreditation Maintenance: Support and provide leadership in maintaining the companys H&S accreditations and participate in steering committees;
- Work Cover & Injury Management: Oversee injury management processes and WorkCover cases to ensure optimal outcomes for all parties involved.
About You
Ideally, you will be based on the Sunshine Coast or happy to travel, you will have a solid 10 years of senior-level WHS leadership experience within significant civil construction projects plus the following:
- Formal qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety or related fields;
- Proven ability to influence and lead safety strategies in a fast-paced, high-risk project environment;
- Strong working knowledge of H&S legislation and ability to ensure compliance across large projects;
- Demonstrated experience in managing critical incidents, conducting investigations, and delivering positive outcomes;
- Experience mentoring and developing safety professionals to foster a high-performing team.
