About the Role

We are currently seeking two full-time Systems Engineers to join the RMS Delivery Team on RTP. Reporting to the RMS Principal Systems Engineer, this role suits an individual who is interested in expanding their career into the Systems Engineering field and gaining exposure into the world of Railway Signaling Systems.
RTP is changing BHP WAIOs railway, and the Systems Engineer will join a BHP team overseeing the development of a new Rail Management System by the main contractor, Alstom.
This role is planned to transition to the future rail organisation managing the Rail Management System (RMS) after the successful delivery of RTP.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development
  • Liaise with BHPs RMS Delivery Team and the future Rail RMS Systems Team to:
  • Manage the RMS requirements baseline, including the implementation and verification of requirement changes.
  • Deep-dive integration issues to identify innovative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Engage with BHPs operations and maintenance teams as a point-of-contact in the integration of people, processes and systems.
  • Source reference data for consideration in Alstoms design of the RMS.
  • Participate in integration and test activities to validate system functions against functional requirements and operator use cases.
  • Work with technical and operations teams to understand system and software defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Engage with the wider rail business to manage and optimise the RMS release roadmap.
  • Participate in configuration management activities for the system.
  • Assist in the technical oversight of Alstom and other system suppliers.
  • Assist in the establishment of, and transition to, a future rail organisation who will be the custodians of the RMS.
  • Ad-hoc site travel will be expected to fulfil these duties.

About You

  • A tertiary qualification in software/electrical/mechanical/systems engineering.
  • An appreciation of a systems lifecycle (e.g the V lifecycle) and how it pertains to a software development-based project.
  • Comfortable in following processes and standards as a first step in problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • The ability to clearly articulate an integration problem and provide solutions that contribute to successful software delivery and deployment.
  • The ability to navigate through ambiguity to source data, analyse outcomes and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Keen to work in a team environment, but able to direct your own path when given high-level descriptions of tasks to be undertaken.
  • 2-5 years of post-graduate experience.
  • Basic development and integration of software-based systems or tools.
  • Insight into working in a project and/or operations environment.
  • Experience solving ambiguous and unclear problems within a tight and clear scope/schedule.
  • Rail experience is nice-to-have, but not essential.
