Site Manager – Power Station

About the Role
Reporting to the Thermal Operations Manager, leveraging your significant knowledge and expertise in power generation, you will provide operational and strategic leadership of the power station facility.
As a power station Site Supervisor you will be responsible for leading a small team of four skilled and experienced Operations and Maintenance Technicians as well as overseeing the day-to-day activities of subcontractors on site.
Leadership skills and previous experience in site and operations management in thermal power generation is essential for success in this role. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operations, maintenance, and reliability of a multi-unit Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) facility.

This role will require the successful candidate to manage and coordinate Operations and Maintenance (O&M) works across a diverse range of plant, systems and equipment including gas turbines and generators, fuel gas systems, water treatment systems, HV (High Voltage) and LV (Low Voltage) electrical systems, and other Balance of Plant (BOP) systems.

Your significant verifiable experience in power generation operations leadership will assist in you driving and contributing to preventative and routine maintenance, corrective maintenance, improvement projects, planned inspections and major maintenance activities at the facility.
This position will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to lead in a team environment as well as work autonomously, with support from top tier industry professionals in the wider business.

Key Responsibilities
The role is responsible for delivery of plant performance and business objectives including plant reliability and performance, budget, risk, compliance, culture and community.
Key responsibilities include;

  • Overall responsibility and leadership for Health Safety and Environment on site
  • Prioritisation, planning and execution to deliver the facility Asset Management Plan
  • Managing plant safety, performance, reliability, and budget to meet business targets
  • Leading, aligning and developing site team capabilities and supporting development
  • Driving team performance through individual and team engagement
  • Building and maintaining relationships across the business and leading industry groups
  • Supervising and assisting hands on with operations and maintenance of the facility

About you
You will have previous operations management and site supervisory experience overseeing all aspects of power plant operations, maintenance and asset management.
You set high standards of performance for self and others and assume responsibility and accountability for successfully completing tasks or assignments.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced leader of small teams with good stakeholder engagement skills and have the capability to interpret and translate business requirements into plant operations and maintenance strategies.
With your previous experience, you will be able to demonstrate;

  • Asset Management knowledge and experience (min 5 years)
  • People leadership, collaboration, positive influence and change management skills
  • Operational management experience in power generation (i.e., min 5-10 years as plant manager, site supervisor, production manager, maintenance manager or asset manager)
  • Good working knowledge and awareness of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the National Electricity Rules (NER) and industry regulations
  • Proven experience in WHS/HSE procedures management and compliance
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations, policies and procedures
  • Leading and directing Operations and Maintenance technicians and subcontractors
  • Communicating and reporting information to the wider operations and management teams
  • Operation and monitoring power generation plant, equipment and systems and taking corrective action as necessary
  • Leading Health, Safety, and Environmental culture and compliance on site including performing role of permit to work authority
  • Supervising power station operations and maintenance personnel and leading preventative maintenance ideas to improve systems where possible
  • Full running of plant and operations
  • Ensuring daily and routine inspections are competed to ensure equipment is working efficiently
  • Perform isolation and permitting operations including HV switching
  • Preparation of annual and long-term operational budgets
  • Ensuring the plant and equipment is maintained and operated safely and efficiently in accordance with financial plans, sound operating principles and statutory obligations.
  • Managing and coordinating rostering, training and development

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience within the power generation industry.
  • Working knowledge of DCS, PLC, SCADA/HMI for power station operations.
  • High level of written and verbal skills, including reporting and presentations.
  • Knowledge of HV and LV switchgear and electrical protection systems.
  • Technical and engineering knowledge including the ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, and P&IDs, and to diagnose issues and faults utilising methods such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Windows applications including Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and CMMS.
  • An excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a power generation environment.
  • Significant demonstrated experience and understanding of safe work processes and procedures, including permit to work and process isolations.
  • Team leadership, team building and relationship development skills.

Qualifications

  • Electrical, mechanical, process or chemical engineering degree or an electrical, instrumentation or mechanical trade qualification with post-trade engineering qualifications and significant experience in power generation
  • Current C Class Drivers License and Right to Work in Australia essential
  • Diploma or Certificate in Business Management (desirable)
  • Work Health and Safety qualifications (desirable)
  • Project Management qualifications (desirable)
  • High Voltage (HV) Switching Operations (desirable)
  • Turbine Operator High Risk Work License (desirable).
  • Type-B Industrial Gas Fitters Licence (desirable).
  • Current CPR, First Aid and LV Rescue certification (desirable).
  • Working at Heights and Confined space Accreditation (desirable).

Additional Requirements

  • Participation in an on-call roster for remote and local operations as required occasionally to cover for Operations and Maintenance Technicians on leave.
  • Perform role of Emergency Controller as required for site Emergency Response.
  • Regular Statutory, regulatory, environmental and operational reporting.
  • Able to meet pre employment criteria which may include a criminal history check and pre-employment medical (including drug & alcohol testing).
