Curragh Mine is one of the largest open-cut coal mines in Queenslands Bowen Basin and located only 12 kilometres from the local township of Blackwater.

About the Role:

Were offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mining Engineer to play a key role in shaping effective mine planning solutions by leading structured and engaging planning processes. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, you will lead a team of skilled Mining Engineers, overseeing the development and delivery of high-quality short-term mine plans. These plans will be crucial in driving operational success and ensuring production targets are met efficiently. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on the mine planning strategy and contribute to a dynamic, results-driven team.

In this role, youll drive change and make an impact by:

  • Ensuring the delivery of accurate strip designs that meet the needs of the operational departments while remaining aligned with the IMP and mid-term strategy.
  • Lead the production of accurate weekly schedules and pathing, ensuring alignment with and achievement of monthly production objectives.
  • Manage the generation and presentation of pre-dig and strip reconciliations, collaborating closely with stakeholders to drive improvements.
  • Convert mid-term plans into effective short-term mine plans, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and the achievement of production targets.
  • Apply your technical expertise to foster continuous improvement, driving operational excellence across all areas.
  • Uphold and ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health standards, promoting a sustainable and safe work environment.
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate with a skilled team of mine planning engineers, ensuring the successful delivery of project objectives.

What Youll Bring

  • Experience in Open Cut Coal Mining within Dragline, Truck, or Shovel operations.
  • Previous experience in delivering efficient, cost-conscious mine planning and scheduling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, using negotiation and influence to support quality production outcomes.
  • Proficiency with mining software such as Vulcan, Deswik, or 3D Dig (or similar).
  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field.

With a short 15-minute drive to work every day and 2.5 hours from the Capricorn Coast, there are not many mine sites that can boast a quicker daily commute, or the ability to reside on the coast spending work time in company accommodation and days off on the beach. 

 If your preference is to live outside of Central Queensland, the company will fund flights between Brisbane and Emerald, along with car hire to get to and from Emerald airport the mine.
