Senior Laboratory Technician

As a member of the team, you will assist management in maintaining SGS’s capability to analyse water in the Inorganics Section. To provide support to the technicians, perform routine analyses, carry out routine maintenance and trouble shooting of instruments, calculate, report and validate results.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake routine and non-routine metals and Inorganics analyses for soil, water and air samples.
  • Check the progress and results of work performed in the section and prepare, review and issue related results.
  • Validation and approval of results in SLIM to be reported.
  • Perform investigatory and developmental works in connection with new methods of analysis and instrumentation.
  • Carry out scheduled internal audits, instrument calibration and maintenance on time.
  • Ensure expected standards of quality are applied in line with SGS’s quality policy and NATA accreditation requirements.
  • Train new staff in appropriate methods.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment in the laboratory.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification, degree in Science (Chemistry) or diploma with minimum three years experience
  • Appropriate experience in metals sample preparation and digestion techniques
  • Knowledge of quality management system and NATA accreditation requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety
