We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Social Transition CSP to drive social and economic data collation and analyses (internal and external stakeholder engagement) to inform business decisions on lease and asset transition to third parties, and in developing sustainable and achievable post-mining land use options.

As well as this, you will also develop and implement social and economic transition plans and investments across the Gove Closure program.

Reporting to the Principle Advisor Social Transition, you will:

  • Build and implement stakeholder engagement plans across the Gove Closure program activities to gather data, collate analyses and inform business decisions.
  • Co-design lease and asset transition plans with Traditional Owners, governments, and other key regional partners (through existing forums such as the GPFRG).
  • Build strong internal cross-functional relationships to identify and address employee and contractor needs for social and economic transition activities.
  • Liaise with Closure studies and projects teams to identify and plan for external engagement on post mining land use options to meet schedules and budgets, with a focus on Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
  • Review and monitor social performance for impact management and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with regional partners.
  • Develop innovative solutions to communication needs with regional partners and communities (where English may be a second or third language)
  • Leverage socio-economic impact assessments to identify and build Gove Closure program mitigation and management plans to address change.
  • Advise on strategic approaches to mitigating social risks and leveraging opportunities.
  • Develop KPIs to review a monitor social performance across lease and asset transition frameworks and social impact management and investment plans.

Where youll be working

Our Gove site in Australias Northern Territory has been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years. 

Gove bauxite is shipped internationally as well as domestically to supply Queensland Alumina Limited and Yarwun refineries in Gladstone, Queensland. These refineries produce alumina as feedstock for our Australian aluminium smelting operations and for sale on the international market. 

 We expect our bauxite mining operations in the Gove Peninsula will cease later this decade and we are doing significant work to support closure of the operation.
