About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. Position:                       Payroll Technician

Reports to:                    Chief Accountant

Location:                       Island Gold Mine (Rouyn’s office), 161, Principale Avenue, Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, J9X 4P6

Role Overview/Purpose:    

Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the Payroll Technician is responsible to prepare the salaried Ontario payroll for Island Gold Division.

Primary Responsibilities:          

  • Review salaried employees’ timesheets and support supervisors in completing them
  • Prepare payroll corrections, adjustments and bonus payments
  • Review changes made to employees’ payroll profile, including group benefit deductions
  • Issue and amend records of employment
  • Act like a resource person for all salaried payroll-related matters
  • Assist the Paymaster on any payroll-related matters
  • Create and prepare payroll-related reports
  • Replace Payroll Clerk during vacation and absences
  • Any other related duties

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • College (Cégep) degree in accounting
  • 5 years of experience in payroll
  • Highly proficient in computer skills and technology
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in French and English
  • Strong clerical, administrative and general office skills including attention to detail and rigor
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills including ability to prioritise and multitask effectively
  • Knowledge of UKG Pro is an asset

Working Conditions:

This position requires to sit in front of a computer for long hours at a time. Additional hours of work and working on Statutory Holidays may be needed from time to time in order to meet deadlines.
