Find your future at Fitzroy

We are a privately-owned diversified coal business in the renowned Bowen Basin of Central Queensland. Our team is made up of individuals who want to deliver value through innovation and who are given the opportunity to put their potential to work. We currently have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Health, Safety & Training Advisor to join the small team at our Broadlea Open Cut.

Broadlea is an open cut mine located ~9km northwest of Carborough Downs, sharing key surface infrastructure including the CHPP and train load out facilities. To ensure sustainable operations, Broadleas mining method will initially involve excavator and truck operations as we work towards introducing a diesel electrical crawler Dragline in the near future.

 About the role

Reporting to the SSE, the Health, Safety & Training (HST) Advisor will play a critical role in the development and rejuvenation of Fitzroys Broadlea mine. This role would ideally suit someone who is early in their career and is looking to learn from a dedicated team and make a real impact to the HST performance of Broadlea.  You would be working alongside a small leadership team with mentoring and support available from several sources.  While you will be the single point of contact for all HST activities, you will have both support and space to grow and make your mark on this role. Your understanding of safety legislation, risk management and training practices as well as an enthusiasm for learning all things HST will be key requirements for this role.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Safety/Occ. Health/related discipline or Diploma of H&S with some industry experience
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (preferred) or workplace trainer assessor units
  • Practical, on-site experience in a Safety focused role ideally within open cut coal mining operations
  • Understanding of or exposure to the way Safety and Health Management Systems (SHMS) are developed, implemented and audited
  • Exposure to the application of Qld Coal Mining legislation and industry safety requirements
  • A positive attitude and an enthusiasm for learning and understanding HST principles
  • Strong communication skills (written and interpersonal)
  • Data management: ability to interpret and analyse data and communicate outcomes to management
  • High level attention to detail with experience in developing and delivering technical reports

Fitzroy Requirements attitude is everything

If the thought of working for a large bureaucratic mining company that pigeon holes you turns you off, look no further. This opportunity is guaranteed to enable you to operate to your full potential, influence outcomes and add tangible value leaning on your experience, knowledge and skillset. You will be joining a small team that takes it upon themselves to work on whatever task is required to advance the mining portfolio of Fitzroy.
