Position Overview:
The Health & Safety Instructor provides comprehensive health and safety training, delivery, and design for all branch-specific requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, hazard assessment, energy isolation, fall protection, crane & rigging, forklift operation, blocking and cribbing, press tooling, and near miss reporting. Training will be delivered both in-person and virtually. The instructor collaborates with Environment, Health & Safety Coordinators and Advisors to develop plans and schedules to meet training needs.
Job Description:
- Deliver in-person and virtual OHS training courses at multiple Finning Canada facilities.
- Evaluate learners through theory and practical skills assessments.
- Maintain certification and stay up-to-date on all course deliverables.
- Complete administrative requirements accurately and promptly, including evaluations and expenses.
- Develop and deliver effective training using a variety of methods, including hands-on training materials, training aids, and documents.
- Coordinate the movement of training aids, confirm classroom space at other branches, and provide cost quotes for training.
- Assist service departments with health and safety requirements and facility needs.
- Act as a strong role model for health and safety in the workplace.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to the Learning and Development Team for course content development or modification.
- Participate in EHS and Learning and Development Team meetings.
- Partner with facilities in their safety training plans.
- Work with the EHS Training Coordinator to plan and book training with facilities.
- Collaborate with the EHS team and facilities to address safety concerns.
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Canadian Standards Association, the Canada Labour Code, and other Provincial Health and Safety regulations.
Education & Experience:
- 5 to 10 years of practical experience using adult learning techniques and best practices in a trainer/facilitator capacity, including both virtual and in-person environments with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Canadian Standards Association, the Canada Labour Code, and other Provincial Health and Safety regulations.
- Knowledge of Inclusion and Diversity in the workplace.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and independent problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, adapting to specific audiences.
- Flexibility and the ability to travel are essential.
- Health and Safety certifications and accreditations (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights, Train the Trainer programs, Joint Health and Safety Committee, CRSP).
- Standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification is an asset.
- **Up to 40% travel will be required in Alberta.
