About the Opportunity

ASC is seeking a candidate with demonstrable export controls compliance and management experience to manage ASCs export control/controlled technology function.

The successful candidate will manage a small team of export control officers and work collaboratively with the whole business to facilitate company objectives in a compliant manner, with a particular focus on export control/controlled technology compliance and developing strategies to identify and mitigate risk and facilitate the transfer of controlled technologies for ASCs multiple programs.

The role will assist the business to effectively manage export control risk and ensure compliance with the US International Trade of Arms Regulations (ITAR) and relevant laws (both domestic and international), will support business development and project management activities impacted by export-controlled technology, and will manage and hold accountability for ASCs export licenses and associated access controls.

This position requires a subject matter expert to consider, manage and advise on a wide range of issues, opportunities and risks relating to domestic and foreign import and export laws to ensure ongoing business continuity and success specifically protecting ASC from significant financial, reputational, contractual and legal harm and sanctions.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute the delivery of ASCs Export Controls function in line with ASCs policies and procedures and compliance with relevant export control laws and regulations from around the world, with particular focus on the ITAR
  • Enhance ASCs existing Export Control frameworks for decision making and governance arrangements to empower teams to make informed decisions, ensure compliance, accountability and clear structure
  • As subject matter expert in Export Controls, provide trusted, clear, accurate and responsive advice and engagement to ASC (including leadership and
  • management) on relevant regulatory matters and frameworks that are applicable to ASCs export and trade controls activities
  • Report on Export Controls function performance and compliance in accordance with business and program requirements
  • Proactively identify processes within the Export Controls Function that would benefit from improvements and recommend the appropriate action
  • Lead a small export controls team, in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Manage the review, preparation and execution of domestic and foreign import and export permits, licenses, certificates and undertakings


About You

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in either: practical export controls compliance experience and/or experience managing export compliance teams; OR as a practising lawyer with a focus on statutory interpretation and regulatory advisory/compliance and a solid understanding of export control laws
  • Tertiary qualifications in law or a relevant field or discipline desirable (not mandatory)
  • Excellent verbal communication and written language skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and team leadership skills
  • Focus on quality/accuracy and responsiveness and ability to work autonomously and influence
  • Demonstrated experience leading small teams in a complex environment
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the business and empower, educate and influence others

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
