Engineering Work Package Lead – Compartment – LOTE

About the Opportunity 

As the Engineering Work Package Lead Compartment, you will oversee the development of designated 3D compartment arrangements for the Collins Class submarine LOTE program to ensure the design is adequately mature to commence 2D outputs. As the leader of a multidiscipline compartment team, you will coordinate and prioritise design inputs and outputs to ensure the LOTE schedule is executed with minimal technical risk to the physical solution.

This is a Full-time, Permanent position, based from Osborne, SA. 

Responsibilities 

  • Manage the compartment design in accordance with the LOTE Integration Detailed Design Process.
  • Lead the design effort between Platform Engineering, 3D Design, Structural Engineering, Human Engineering, Signatures, Weight & Stability and Implementation to ensure the compartment design is sufficiently mature to commence 2D outputs.
  • Coordinate and lead the LOTE Compartment Integration Reviews (design gate reviews) with support from the Project Engineering Manager Compartment.
  • Manage the compartment physical configuration (including maintaining the Compartment On-Off list).
  • Conduct regular compartment meetings to ensure consistency between key program stakeholders.
  • Manage compartment level technical integration risk.
  • Ensure compartment consistency with Parallel and Non-conflicting Design Activities (PANDA).
  • Establish, maintain and deliver integration metrics and documentation (including Detailed Design Priority Guide Blocking Points, Design Decisions Register, Recommendations Register, Assumptions & Exclusions register etc.).

About you 

  • Bachelor of Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Technical qualifications and experience relevant to the coordination of technical activities in a military or maritime environment ideally qualifying for a Chartered accreditation with a relevant technical society.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience conducting engineering activities in accordance with the engineering product lifecycle in either sustainment or design.
  • Ability to lead a multi-discipline team of engineers and technical personnel.
  • An understanding of subcontractor engagement including engineering service providers and equipment procurement.

  • A good understanding of configuration management, product safety, seaworthiness and engineering governance and assurance.
  • A good understanding of material control and supply chain process
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Parallel and Non-conflicting Design Activities (PANDA) methodology

 Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
