SSR Mining – Seabee Gold Operation is hiring for a Capital Projects Engineer.

About Your New Role:

Reporting to the Superintendent, Capital Projects, the Capital Projects Engineer, will be responsible for managing internal engineering projects, Seabee Gold Operation capital processes and execution/construction for multi-disciplinary projects at Seabee Gold Operation sites, in a manner that will meet business needs and is in accordance with SSR project management principles of Safety, Quality, Scope, Schedule, and Cost.

You will develop and execute projects at SSR Mining Seabee Gold Operation.  You will be a key resource in the development of the annual capital budget, including initial scope development for project requests, providing cost estimates, and developing business cases with input and buy-in from site stakeholders.  In addition, you will provide field engineering support to ongoing projects, including schedule and progress tracking, change management, quality assurance, and field engineering support.  Efficient delivery of project deliverables, effective quality control, clear communication of expectations to stakeholders, and upward reporting to senior management are critical tasks that must be performed throughout each project’s lifecycle.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for effective project management control in a manner that will safely deliver capital projects within budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Establish project charters, cost estimates, and business cases with input from stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain overall execution plan, schedules and cost management systems, contracts, and manage QA/ QC programs.
  • Establish, standardize, and maintain project management procedures and systems.
  • Coordinate activities between Seabee Gold Operations resources, stakeholders, and contractors.
  • Identify critical issues within the project (i.e., project risks and opportunities) that could impact outcomes (i.e., schedule or budget) and develop action plans to address negative variances and reporting areas of non-compliance to the project stakeholders.
  • Undertake the entire lifecycle of Seabee Gold Operation project portfolio, ranging from strategic planning initiatives to tactical activities, including scoping, planning, design, procurement, execution, and reporting.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings and forums to solicit feedback, input, and expectations; incorporate these into project plans.
  • Establish, implement, and follow a formal change management program.
  • Adhere to established methodologies for project management.
  • Produce monthly reports on the progress of project portfolio development.
  • Conduct project debriefings in order to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations based on findings.

Your Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management methods.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are essential.
  • Ability to create and facilitate meetings, feedback sessions, and briefings to create consensus among stakeholders.
  • Able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff, including technical, professional, and management
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to create and edit project documents, materials, and presentations.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with operational personnel and other stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.

Your Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical, electrical, mining, geological, chemical, or civil engineering or a related subject
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in project or construction engineering preferably in a mining or other industrial environment
  • Project management Professional certification will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an industrial facility, remote operations, shift work, and seasonal access restrictions is preferred.

About Our Working Conditions:

This position has a schedule of one (1) week on, one (1) week off at our remote camp in northern Saskatchewan, working 11-hour days with possibility of unscheduled overtime required on occasion. You will be required to fly in fly out of the site on designated days from a pick-up point in either Saskatoon, Prince Albert or La Ronge.
