We are seeking qualified and experienced Boilermakers to join the Ahrens Group at our structural steel workshops located in Kingsford, South Australia with multiple positions available.

To be successful in this role you must be a first-class Tradesperson or have demonstrated experience in fabricating and welding.

Steel Solutions is a leading division of the Ahrens family of brands and is nationally recognised for fabricating components for projects using structural steel, cladding, mechanical, piping, platework, machining and blast and paint works. Our world-class fabrication plant located at our head office in Kingsford, SA, is also home to Australias first automated Custom Engineered Building (CEB) plant one of the most advanced of its kind in the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read drawings, work orders and production schedules to determine product or job instructions and specifications.
  • Competently and safely operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal using gas shielded metal arc to the required specifications and Australian Standard.
  • Competently set up and operate hand and power tools common to the fabrication trade such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, grinders and carbon rod gauging
  • Label and sort manufactured plate material into product groups
  • Mark-out, cut/drill/punch holes as required for plate material in accordance with fabrication drawings.
  • Layout, position, align and assemble components together in accordance with fabrication drawings and tolerances.
  • Mechanical cutting of steel and compiling of cutting lists from fabrication drawings.
  • Measure and cut raw materials with straightedges and high accuracy.
  • Move steel in workshop with overhead crane and forklift (where licensed and authorised).
  • Transfer fabricated components between production departments in accordance with production schedules.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of work areas, equipment, tools and facilities.
  • Safely and efficiently undertake all other duties in the workshop, paint/blast bay and yard areas as instructed by Management.

Skills and Experience

  • Trade Qualification in Boilermaking / Welding and experience in a similar position.
  • Be able to read, interpret and fabricate from workshop drawings.
  • Strong aptitude in the mig weld process as well as ability to perform various types of welds procedures;
  • Previous experience in structural steel fabrication.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness with understanding of OH&S practices.
  • Organisation skills, with efficient & productive work ability.
  • Have the right attitude and willingness to work reasonable overtime offered.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
