A tragic incident at the Byerwen coal mine near Mackay, central Queensland, has claimed the life of a 48-year-old worker. The accident, involving a crane, occurred early in the morning at the site on Wollombi Road in Suttor.
Emergency Response
Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 7:30 am after receiving reports of an unresponsive man. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Incident Details
Rob Djukic, CEO of Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ), stated that the accident involved a pick and carry crane. The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation. According to a Queensland police spokesperson, the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Investigation Underway
Authorities from the RSHQ Serious Incident Investigation Unit are currently on-site, working to determine the events that led to this unfortunate fatality.
